At Colonial Orthopedics, our doctors perform both electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction study (NCS) tests for our patients with conditions affecting the peripheral nervous system, such as pinched nerves and nerve pain. These tests offer us a view of how well your nervous system, brain, and musculoskeletal system are communicating.
Electromyography (EMG) measures the nerve impulses in muscles when they contract. We use EMGs to identify muscle function as related to nerve input. This test helps us diagnose neurological disorders, muscle disease, and nerve abnormalities resulting from pain or numbness.
A nerve conduction study identifies the site of nerve compression. Compression can result from swelling, injury, or disease. We use NCS to identify nerve problems and plan appropriate treatments for these conditions.
We perform EMG & NCS testing at our Spine Institute of Virginia office in Chester, VA. If you have numbness, tingling, or pain from a pinched nerve, please contact us today for evaluation and testing. The easiest way to schedule an appointment is to fill out our easy online form.
